Day 12: Active Rest Day

Welcome to Day 12 of our 4-Week Total Body Transformation Challenge! Today, we focus our energy on taking a break from our workouts and getting some much needed active rest. That doesn’t mean we can’t do anything today though – rather, today is a day to get up and move your body.

Today’s activity of choice is swimming. We highly encourage swimming as a form of active rest because it doesn’t put any strain on your joints or muscles and is a great way to get your heart rate up without feeling like you are overexerting yourself. Plus, it’s a great way to stay cool during these summer months!

Swimming is a beneficial form of exercise because it strengthens your lungs and improves your cardiovascular fitness. Not to mention, it’s a great full body workout! Swimming increases flexibility due to the slow, methodical movements you must make in the water. It is also a zero-impact activity which means that it’s easy on the joints.

To get the most out of swimming on your active rest day, it is important to warm-up before jumping into the pool. Swimming for a few minutes at a slow pace can help you get in the groove and prevent any potentialpulls or strains.
